The Max Corvo Papers contain correspondence, memos, files, telegrams, leaflets, pamphlets, tickets, maps, photographs, and other materials originating from the late Maj. Biagio “Max” Corvo (1920-1994), a U.S. Army officer of the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) in the Italian theater of operations of World War II.

This series primarily consists of correspondence from Samuel Watkinson Sr. (1745-1816) with associate William Meeking Jr. from 1795 to 1816, who oversaw the sale of Watkinson’s property in Lavenham and the wool business after he left. It also contains a letter addressed to his cousin, Robert Watkinson, shortly after his departure from England, dated 1796, as well as a copy of his will, a notebook, financial documents and account books, and an inventory of goods from 1790. These papers contain four ornithology notebooks, miscellaneous papers, two household account books, and a notebook relating to the Clark family genealogy. The genealogy book dates from the early 20th century, while the rest of the collection dates to the period of 1874 to 1903. Some of the notebooks record birdwatching and ornithology research. Household account books span 1874-1890 and 1891-1902.

This collection contains a range of materials related to the life of Sydney Stanley (1805-1878), Clerk of Connecticut Legislature. The Stanley papers are one of the earliest manuscript collections to be donated to the Watkinson Library, most likely sometime after 1885, based on an 1878 bequest of Sydney Stanley.
